Seems like forever that I’ve updated a post here. I mean the last on was from the office in the old house. We finally did make the move to the new house. Unfortunately while in the process of the move work kept calling every few minutes because they jumped the plan early and deployed a project without me. I has already planned on being there for the planned deploy but what could I do when it went early.
For so many months I’ve been working double shifts trying to get the affiliate system out. While I’ve meet my goals on each iteration, new features keep putting it back that set me behind for launch. Or more realistically my project been stuck behind others that don’t let me deploy on time. I think this has caused more friction in the company that shouldn’t be attributed to me or my abilities. But what can I do.
For about two weeks now I haven’t had to work non-stop and it’s been really nice. Not only have I started to work on my personal abiliates again; read Object Thinking by David West. I’ve also started to plan on blogging more as well.
I go two great posts out over this Thanksgiving weekend and have at least two more posts to write. One concerning JavaScript testing and the other CherryPy testing. The problem is I don’t want to rapid fire the posts, 4 posts in 2 days and nothing for a month. That’s not very good.
So lot’s more to come with the time I finally have!

Friday I was looking forward to the much anticipated deploy of the project I had been working on for months now. Being both excited about the deploy and the new functionality it was to provide, and yet fearful it would under perform as a result I hadn’t foreseen, I was on a pins and needles roller coaster ride.
Unexpectedly just before the deploy I was called into the main conference room by the CEO and the VP of Software development. Seems even before the deploy I was being placed on a new project that was similar to the one I had been working on.
The bad thing is I’m moving and no choice about it in four days. I’ve already packed up my office and have really no way to un-pack anything. So I guess when hard measures are called for then break out the patio furniture.

Patio furniture not just for outside

So far we’ve stayed in this really nice rental house for a little over a year. It’s been great but time to down-grade a little bit. Abra is 18 and continously tell us she is moving out with her friends. Not sure how’s she’s going to do that since she doesn’t have a job.
So the decision was made and we found a sweet deal for a 3/2 with a 1/1 duplex for only 1600.00 a month. That would give Abra her own pad which we could sub-lease (and we currently have takers) if she decides to go.
Seriously though, we currently pay 1600.00 a month in rent, not including the utilites. Electric in this big old house costs like 500.00 a month. Add to the budget another 200.00 for water/sewer and gas; it’s really a move of necessity.
So alas moving to a smaller home, *sniff* I will miss my office *sniff* will ultimately mean Rai and I can spend more on time with the kids.
The horrible thing about this is that I have a prject due to go live Oct 1. Which means I’m booked solid on work until then. We can’t move in until October 1 and we need to be out by Oct. 1. Do you see the collision that’s going to happen?
Granted, with this years economy, and until we finally elect a new president, it’s more of an opportunity to save. That’s the way I see it. Abra of course is fine with the move. Kel and Donovan are fine with it. I’m a bit worried that Kel’s room will be too small.
She’s such a good girl though: much like me she will take to the change.
